AP Stats, made simple

Every big idea in AP Statistics, explained like a friend would explain it. Play with the ideas in the lab, practice for the exam, and ask the AI tutor anything.

The nine units

Everything on the AP exam, one unit at a time. Each one says how much of the exam it covers. Open a unit for the big ideas, an everyday example and the mistake to watch for.

    Unit 1 · z-scores

How much of the curve is shaded?

A z-score says how many standard deviations (steps) you are from the middle. Slide it and watch the shaded part. The shaded area is the percent of values in that part.

A normal curve with the chosen area shaded.

    Which test do I use?

Every inference question on the exam uses the same four steps: State, Plan, Do, Conclude. First ask what kind of data you have.

    • Yes/no answers?Percents: use a z-test for proportions.
    • Numbers you can average?Means: use a t-test.
    • Counts in many categories?Use a chi-square test.
    • A line through dots?Use a t-test for the slope.

Connect Claude for full AI answers

You don't need this: Stat Buddy is free without a key. If you have your own key from the Claude Console, you can get answers from Claude, made by Anthropic, instead. Your key is only sent to Anthropic, straight from this browser, and each question costs a few cents on that account.

    Quick check

Exam-style questions with the reason behind every answer. Pick a unit or do them all.

      Cheat sheet

The formulas you'll use most, each with what it means in plain words. You get a formula sheet on the exam, so focus on knowing when to use each one.

        Key terms

Stats words in plain English. Underlined words in the lessons open these too.

        About, privacy and terms

AP Stats, Made Simple has no accounts, ads or analytics. This is how it works and what it does with your information.

        How it's made

The lessons, examples and practice questions were written with Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, following the nine units of the AP Statistics course. The goal is plain words: if a 5th grader could follow the sentence, it stays.

AI can make mistakes. Your textbook, your teacher and the official course description are the final word.

        The AI tutor

When you ask Stat Buddy something, your question and the chat so far go to this site's small tutor server (a Cloudflare Worker). It asks Qwen3, a free open AI model, running on Cloudflare Workers AI, and sends the answer back. The tutor server doesn't save your questions. Each page visit gets a random number so the server can share questions fairly between students; it isn't stored and doesn't identify you. If you use your own Claude API key instead, your browser talks to Anthropic directly.

Cloudflare handles those messages under its own privacy policy, and Anthropic does under its policy if you use your own key. Don't type private things like your full name, address or passwords into the chat.

        Privacy

        • The site collects no personal information. There are no accounts, trackers or analytics.
        • It saves your practice answers and score in your own browser so they're still there next time. They never leave your device.
        • If you add your own API key, it's kept only for this visit, unless you tick "Remember the key on this device."
        • The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub may log visitors' IP addresses for security; see GitHub's privacy statement.

        Your data

Everything this site saved is in your browser, so you can remove it yourself. This button clears your practice answers, your saved key and your settings.

        Terms of use

        • The guide is free and sells nothing. If you connect an API key, any charges are between you and Anthropic.
        • AP® is a trademark registered by the College Board, which is not affiliated with, and does not endorse, this site.
        • Lessons and AI answers can contain mistakes. Use them to learn, and check anything important with your teacher.

        Accessibility

Everything works with a keyboard. Tab moves between controls, Enter or Space presses buttons and opens units, arrow keys move between tabs, and Escape closes a key-term card or the menu. In the chat, Enter sends and Shift + Enter starts a new line. Motion switches off if your device asks for reduced motion.
